Transform Tool
Select, move, rotate, and resize shapes on the canvas using the Transform tool.
Transform tool
The Transform tool is the primary way to select and manipulate shapes on the canvas. Use it to move, rotate, resize, and edit shapes.
Accessing the tool
Select the Transform tool from the toolbar at the top of the 2D panel, or press V on your keyboard.
Selecting shapes
Click to select
Click on any shape to select it. A dotted bounding box appears around the selected shape, along with transform handles at the corners and sides.
Drag to select multiple shapes
Click and drag on an empty area of the canvas to draw a selection box. All shapes that fall within the box are selected when you release.
Modify selection
- Add to selection: Hold Shift and click on additional shapes
- Remove from selection: Hold Shift and click on an already-selected shape
- Select all shapes: Press Ctrl+A (Cmd+A on Mac)
- Clear selection: Click on an empty area of the canvas
Moving shapes
Drag anywhere inside the bounding box to move selected shapes. The shapes follow your cursor as you drag.
For precise movement, use the arrow keys:
- Arrow keys move the selection by 1mm
- Hold Shift + arrow keys to move by 10mm
Resizing shapes
Drag the handles around the bounding box to resize:
- Corner handles: Scale proportionally, maintaining the shape's aspect ratio
- Side handles: Scale in one direction only (width or height)
The bounding box displays the current width and height in millimeters as you resize.
Rotating shapes
A rotation handle appears above the bounding box. Drag this handle to rotate the selected shapes around their center point.
Touch gestures
On touch devices, use two-finger gestures on selected shapes:
- Two-finger drag: Move shapes
- Pinch: Scale shapes proportionally
- Two-finger rotate: Rotate shapes around their center
Editing individual points
Double-click on a shape to enter edit mode, where you can modify individual anchor points and bezier curves.
In edit mode:
- Click a point to select it
- Drag a point to move it
- Drag bezier handles to adjust curves
- Drag on empty space to draw a selection box around multiple points
- Double-click a point to change its type (smooth, corner, or auto-smooth)
- Click outside all points to deselect
- Click outside points again (with none selected) to exit edit mode
Edit mode works with freehand shapes, polygon shapes, and other path-based objects.
Dimension display
When shapes are selected, the bounding box shows:
- Width: Displayed below the selection
- Height: Displayed to the right of the selection
Dimensions are shown in millimeters.
Tips
- Press Escape or click on empty canvas to deselect all shapes
- After selecting shapes, context actions appear at the bottom of the screen for color, alignment, and other operations
- The Transform tool activates automatically after drawing a shape
