Shape Tools
Create precise geometric shapes like rectangles, circles, triangles, stars, hearts, and polygons.
Shape tools
Shape tools create precise geometric shapes on the canvas. Each shape becomes a 3D object that you can extrude, sculpt, or combine with other shapes.
Using shape tools
All shape tools work the same way:
- Select a shape tool from the toolbar
- Click and drag on the canvas to define the shape's size
- Release to complete the shape
Alternatively, tap once on the canvas to place a shape with a default size.
Available shapes
Rectangle
Draw rectangles and squares.
- Select the Rectangle tool from the toolbar
- Click and drag diagonally to define opposite corners
- Release to complete
The rectangle's width and height follow your drag direction. Drag down and to the right for a standard rectangle, or in any direction to position the shape.
Circle
Draw circular shapes.
- Select the Circle tool from the toolbar
- Click to set the center point
- Drag outward to define the radius
- Release to complete
While dragging, a measurement displays the current radius.
Circle segment
Draw arc segments (partial circles).
- Select the Circle Segment tool from the toolbar
- Click to set the center point
- Drag to define both the radius and the arc angle
- Release to complete
The drag direction determines where the arc ends. Drag further around to create larger arcs.
Triangle
Draw triangular shapes.
- Select the Triangle tool from the toolbar
- Click and drag to define the triangle's size
- Release to complete
Creates an isosceles triangle centered on your starting point. Drag horizontally to control width, vertically to control height.
Star
Create star shapes with multiple points.
- Select the Star tool from the toolbar
- Click and drag to define the star's size
- Release to complete
Stars are created with 5 points by default. Drag horizontally to control the outer radius (point tips) and vertically to control the inner radius (between points). A smaller inner radius creates sharper, more pronounced points.
Heart
Draw heart shapes.
- Select the Heart tool from the toolbar
- Click and drag to define the size
- Release to complete
Drag to control width and height independently.
Regular polygon
Create regular polygons with equal sides (pentagon, hexagon, etc.).
- Select the Polygon tool from the shape tools submenu
- Click and drag to define size and number of sides
- Release to complete
Drag horizontally to control the radius. Drag vertically to adjust the number of sides (3 to 15). Polygons default to 6 sides (hexagon).
Quick placement
Tap once on the canvas without dragging to place a shape with default dimensions. This is useful for quickly adding shapes that you plan to resize with the Transform tool.
Working with shapes
After creating a shape, you can:
- Move, resize, and rotate using the Transform tool
- Change color using the color picker in the context menu
- Combine shapes using Union to merge or Cut to subtract
- Convert to holes to cut through other shapes
- Add height in the 3D panel to extrude into 3D objects
Symmetry mode
When symmetry mode is enabled, shapes are mirrored across the symmetry line as you draw. This works with all shape tools.
Tips
- Tap to place shapes at default size, then use Transform to resize precisely
- Use the Star tool with a small inner radius for sharp-pointed stars, or a larger inner radius for more rounded stars
- Regular polygons work well as bases for badges, frames, and mechanical parts
- Circle segments are useful for pie charts, gauges, and decorative arcs
