Text Tool
Add text to your CADit designs with customizable fonts. Text becomes 3D shapes that can be extruded, styled, and combined with other objects.
Text tool
The Text tool adds text to your design. Each letter becomes a filled shape that you can extrude into 3D, change colors, and combine with other objects.
Placing text
- Select the Text tool from the 2D toolbar
- Click on the canvas where you want to place the text
- Type your text in the input field that appears
- Press Enter or click elsewhere on the canvas to confirm
The text appears at the position where you clicked. You can move it afterward using the Transform tool.
Editing text
To change existing text:
- Select the Text tool
- Click on the text you want to edit
- Modify the text in the input field
- Press Enter or click elsewhere to confirm
If you delete all characters, the text object is removed when you click away.
Selecting a font
CADit includes 10 fonts designed to work well in 3D:
| Font | Style |
|---|---|
| Abril Fatface | Decorative serif with high contrast |
| Arimo | Clean sans-serif, readable at small sizes |
| Bellefair | Elegant serif with thin strokes |
| Braille | Dot-based characters for accessibility |
| Fascinate | Bold, blocky display font |
| Joti One | Rounded, playful letterforms |
| Lobster | Script-style with connected letters |
| Oswald | Narrow sans-serif, condensed |
| Play | Geometric sans-serif |
| Ranga | Handwritten style with thick strokes |
To change the font:
- Select text using the Transform tool, or have the Text tool active
- Open the Font menu from the context bar at the bottom of the screen
- Click the font you want to apply
The font selection also affects new text you create.
How text becomes 3D
Text follows the same rules as other 2D shapes:
- Each letter is a filled shape on the canvas
- The shape extrudes based on the Height setting in the 3D panel
- You can apply Sculpt and Twist effects
- Text responds to Doodle Mode layering when enabled
Letters with enclosed areas (like "o", "e", or "a") automatically have holes that pass through the extruded form.
Working with text
After placing text, you can:
- Move: Select with the Transform tool and drag
- Resize: Drag the corner handles
- Rotate: Use the rotation handle above the selection
- Change color: Use the color picker in the context menu
- Make a hole: Toggle Hole Material to cut text through other shapes
- Combine: Use Union to merge text with other shapes
Tips
- For readable text in 3D prints, choose fonts with thicker strokes like Fascinate, Ranga, or Oswald
- Thin fonts like Bellefair may be fragile when printed at small sizes
- To create raised lettering on a surface, draw a rectangle first, then place text on top and adjust heights so the text is taller
- To create engraved text, place the text, toggle Hole Material, and position it overlapping your base shape
