Pipette Tool

Sample colors from existing shapes to use as the current drawing color.

Pipette tool

The Pipette tool samples colors from shapes on the canvas. Click on any shape to copy its color and use it for drawing or filling other shapes.

How to use

  1. Open the color picker in the context menu at the bottom of the screen
  2. Select the Pipette tool (shown as an eyedropper icon in the color palette)
  3. Click on any shape to sample its color

After sampling, the pipette:

  • Sets the sampled color as your current drawing color
  • Automatically switches back to your previous tool

You can then draw new shapes or use the Bucket Fill tool to apply the sampled color.

Sampling from different sources

The Pipette tool works with:

  • Shapes: Samples the fill color of any drawn shape
  • Text: Samples the color of text objects
  • Photo guide images: Samples the pixel color at the click position

When overlapping shapes exist at the click position, the pipette samples from the topmost shape.

Workflow example

To match a color from an existing shape:

  1. Draw or import shapes with your desired colors
  2. Open the color picker and select the Pipette
  3. Click on the shape whose color you want to use
  4. The color is now active for your next drawing operation

This is useful when you want to ensure color consistency across multiple shapes or when recreating a design with specific colors.

Tips

  • After sampling, you return to your previous tool automatically, so you can continue drawing right away
  • Use the pipette with Photo Guide images to match colors from imported reference images
  • The sampled color appears in the color swatch, making it visible what color is currently selected
